Team Member Spotlight

Congratulations to our team members on their recent promotions! We are proud to announce that six team members took the next step in their career with the firm.

Debbie Mathieu, CPA was promoted to Supervisor in the firm’s tax department. She began working with BPW in 2012 and is part of the Estate Planning Group at the firm. She grew up in the Bay Area in Marin County and graduated from UCSB with a double major bachelor degree in Psychology and Art Studio. She later returned to UCSB Extension to complete the accounting course she needed to take the CPA exam. In her time away from the firm, she enjoys spending time with her family, including going to the beach, swimming and picking fruits and vegetables in their garden.

Gisela Rodriguez, CPA was promoted to Manager in the firm’s tax department. She was also just named one of the 2017 40 Under 40 by the Pacific Coast Business Times. Gisela was born in Guadalajara, Mexico and grew up in Santa Barbara. She has a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from San Diego State University and is currently working on her Master’s in Taxation at Golden Gate University. She enjoys working on a variety of engagements, particularly partnership and nonprofit tax returns. In her free time, Gisela likes to travel, go hiking and spend time with her family. She has been involved with the VITA Program at Santa Barbara High School and is currently looking for new volunteer opportunities.

Kelsie Burrows was promoted to Level II Staff Accountant within the firm’s tax department. Kelsie began her career with BPW as part of the 2016 intern class. She graduated shortly thereafter from Westmont College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business and joined the firm full time. She is originally from Fillmore, New York and enjoys poetry, woodworking and hiking in her free time.

  Lisa Lorden was promoted to Manager in the firm’s bookkeeping department. She joined BPW in 2015 and has over 25 years of experience in accounting. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, Lisa has worked with a wide variety of clients, as she owned her own bookkeeping service and also served as an accounting manager and controller. Lisa has a background in HR, contract management and project management, as well as industry expertise in construction, technology, nonprofits and professional services firms. In her time away from the firm, Lisa is an avid equestrian, enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and four rescue dogs and has won awards in local art shows for her oil painting work.

Michael Shaner was promoted to Senior Accountant in BPW’s audit department. He joined the firm in 2015 and holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. In his free time, Michael enjoys exercising, drawing and working on graphic design projects. He grew up in Goleta and attended Dos Pueblos High School.

Tyler Moore was promoted to Level II Staff Accountant within the firm’s tax department. Tyler joined BPW in 2016 after participating in the firm’s tax season internship program. Originally from Murrieta, CA, he graduated from Westmont College with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business. Tyler is involved in the local CalCPA chapter and serves as the co-chair of both the CalCPA Channel Counties Golf Committee and the Financial Literacy Committee. In his time outside of BPW, he enjoys playing softball and golf and recently ran a half marathon. Additionally, he teaches Sunday School to four-year-olds every other week at his church in Ventura.
